Check whether you need a dust mask or a mask that filters fumes.\u00a0 Ordinary prescription glasses will not protect your eyes from splinters and other debris and the glass may even shatter.<\/p>\n<h2>DIY Safety When Using Power Tools<\/h2>\n<p>If you are using a power tool for the first time, make sure you read the instruction manual or get someone to show you how to properly use it. Many people underestimate how difficult it can be to use an unfamiliar power tool.\u00a0 Make sure you are aware of all the safety features before you turn it on.\u00a0 Check that all parts are connected correctly and that you know how to safely hold the machine before you turn it on.<\/p>\n<h2>DIY Safety When Using a Ladder<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hirehere.ie\/access-and-scaffolds\">Using a ladder<\/a> may be essential for painting that wall but you need to be aware of the dangers.\u00a0 The ladder must be placed on a stable, level surface and locked into the open position.\u00a0 Aluminium ladders should not be used near utility poles or electrical wires.\u00a0 If you have to place a ladder at a door, make sure that the door is locked.\u00a0 Always have someone nearby when you are working at a height<\/p>\n<h2>DIY Safety Electricity Dangers<\/h2>\n<p>We all know that water and electricity don\u2019t mix but so many people forget this.\u00a0 This is very important especially if you are working outdoors; keep a check on the weather. You could also use moisture meters to check for internal or unseen water If you are repairing something, use a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hirehere.ie\/surveying\/locators\">voltage meter <\/a>to make sure the item isn\u2019t getting any electrical current. \u00a0Never use tools which have frayed cords or have disabled guards.<\/p>\n<h2>DIY Safety and First Aid<\/h2>\n<p>Keep a First Aid Kit and a fire extinguisher nearby.\u00a0 Make sure the fire extinguisher is the correct type for the work you are doing, i.e. for electrical fires you should have a dry powder or Co2 extinguisher.\u00a0 The First Aid Kit should be easy to open and be stocked with basic supplies.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>\n<div
