What To Do When A Flood Happens<\/h2>\n

In Ireland, rain and flooding are a part of life. Some places especially those near rivers, lakes or on the coastline have a higher flood risk. Flooding can happen for many other reasons too, such as burst pipes or collapsed roofs.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

It is always good to know what to do when a building floods, even if you are not in a high risk area.<\/p>\n

Before a Flood<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Be aware of weather forecasts and if there is heavy rain expected in your area<\/li>\n
  2. Know the difference between a Flood Watch and Flood Warning. A flood watch is issued for flooding which is expected after heavy rain has ended.\u00a0 A flood warning means flooding is happening now or will happen soon.<\/li>\n
  3. If you know your building is in danger of flooding move furniture to high ground and turn off electrical items<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    During a Flood<\/strong><\/p>\n

    1. Do not touch electrical items when there is water on the floor.<\/li>\n
    2. Do not walk through moving water, \u00a0as even 6 inches of water can cause falls.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/div><\/section>\n\n
