How To Start A Stihl Strimmer or Brush Cutter

Stihl have produced this excellent safety video which goes through the main points of using this machine.   The video has been made for Stihl American customers but the information is still relevant to the Irish market.

As we hire this machine in perfect working order, we take care of the maintenance and upkeep.

We inspect the machine for loose nuts; screws etc. and for cracked, bent, warped or damaged blades.

All our machines are supplied with a full tank of fuel. As we fill the fuel tanks onsite, we make sure  the fuel cap is not damaged or leaking.

Safely Start the Stihl Strimmer

When starting the engine, be absolutely sure that the cutting tool is clear of you and other obstructions including the ground, because when the engine starts its starting throttle, engine speed will be fast enough for the clutch to engage and turn the cutting tool.

Use the primer and set the choke when starting a cold engine.

When you pull the starter grip, don’t wrap the starter rope around your hand.

Do not allow the grip to snap back but guide the starter rope to rewind it properly.

Failure to follow this procedure may result in injury to hand or fingers and may damage the starter mechanism.

Pull the rope several times until you hear the engine try to start. Then move the choke lever to the open position to avoid flooding the engine.
