Hire Here Dublin how to use a nail gun

Our ranges of cordless nail guns for hire are from Hilti and Paslode.  Using a cordless nail gun is a more efficient way than traditional hammering.  They give a more accurate and faster finish.

The nails are in strips like staples. They are loaded into the nail gun in various quantities.

How To Use A Nail Gun

  1. Before you turn on the power, put safety goggles on and load the nail strip into the gun. Make sure you are using the correct size nails for the job you are doing.  If the gun already has nails loaded, don’t just assume that they are the right size.  If you have to, unload the nail strip and check the size of the nails.
  2. Turn on the power and do a few practice shots on a spare piece of wood. This allows you to get the feel of the gun and to test the amount of pressure needed on the trigger.
  3. Place the tip of the gun against the surface you intend to nail.  Hold the handle of the gun so that you can easily press the trigger.  You should have the gun supported and be able to keep it in place when you fire it, as there will be a kickback.
  4. Push the tip of the gun against the surface, pull the trigger and immediately let go. This insures that only one nail is fired at a time. Many people make the mistake of pulling the trigger twice, which fires a second nail right behind the first one.  This can be very dangerous and wastes nails.
  5. Pull the gun away from the surface. The nail head should be flush to the surface.
  6. When the nail strip runs out, disconnect the gun from the power source before reloading with a new nail strip.

How To Use A Nail Gun Safety Tips

  • Nail guns, like any power tools can be dangerous if not used correctly.  Each year many people end up in hospital with foot and hand injuries due to misusing nail guns.
  • Nail guns are designed so that they cannot shoot unless the nose piece is pushed up against a surface.  This means that if you just point the gun at the ground, it should not fire.  Be aware though of how you hold the gun.  Depending on the make and model, if you hold the gun barrel against your leg or someone bumps into you, the nail gun could be accidently triggered.
  • Never touch or allow anyone else to touch the trigger unless you are ready to fire.  When handing the nail gun to someone or someone hands you a nail gun, make sure never to touch the trigger.
  • Wear proper safety goggles and make sure anyone helping you wears safety google too.
  • Keep children and pets away from your work area and always disconnect and put the nail gun out of reach when it is not in use.
